The last forecast

A new dance theatre show for audiences 6+ with Catherine Wheels.

Somewhere, on an island, Gail, a gecko-like creature lives alone, in harmony with the surroundings. Everything matches, everything is perfect.

However, Gail is not going to be alone for much longer. A stranger arrives, laden with earthly belongings and starts setting up home, disturbing this island sanctuary. Despite this, the forecast is for rising water levels and soon there won’t be space for either of them…

The Last Forecast is touring schools across Scotland with TISS this Autumn.

****
“…a wonderful show, and admirably abstract for a work intended for younger audiences.” Bridie Gane’s ‘The Last Forecast’ for Catherine Wheels, is children’s theatre of a very high order.'

THE SYLPH, THE VIXEN AND THE BOMBSHELL

Week 1 of The Sylph, The Vixen and The B

An early sketch of a dance theatre piece. Three generations of women experiment with taking well known images of female archetypes, getting lost in them and breaking out of them.

In contrast to perceived ideas of how women should behave at different ages, this piece explores, evaluates and revels in the collision of unexpected juxtapositions. Aiming to overcome gender and age-related bias, with women no longer in supporting roles but telling their own stories.

This exploration has had two weeks of research and development thanks to support from Dance Base and Creative Scotland,  currently works with both professional and non- professional performers and was mentored by Charlotte Vincent.

One hit wonder

One Hit Wonder delves into the history of women in entertainment, focusing in on Golden Age Hollywood, Bridie uses her unusually tall stature to attempt to inhabit the standard of beauty that the stage requires. One Hit Wonder was presented at Heads Up (Part of Dance's Base's Fringe programme), Chill Habibi (Part of Summerhall's Fringe programme), Dance Base's Spring Showcase, Buzzcut, and Blue cloud Scratch night.

'.....One Hit Wonder by Bridie Gane evokes the silent film era in a short dance piece.....There’s a clear progression from dancing along with the music to completely disregarding it. The simple celebration of freedom from traditional forms is both joyful and anarchic, and effectively captures the spirit of the festival....'
